A Teacher Assistant (T.A.) at the Education Consortium's Royal Britannia Kindergarten in Kuwait is a supporting role for the class teacher. As a school we are trying to achieve high standards by responding professionally, sensitively and caringly to the needs of all our pupils. Teacher Assistants assist classroom teachers with teaching & learning, administrative duties and carrying out school policies and procedures.
Work activities generally include:
1. Help children in all areas of the curriculum
2. Assist with the preparation of the learning environment
3. Work with other professionals
4. Act as liaison with parents
5. Maintain pupil records
6. Provide extra support to children with special needs or those who speak English as an additional language
Teaching and learning
1. Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the administration and class teachers
2. Support small groups in the classroom
3. Work with individuals or small groups outside the classroom when appropriate
4. Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes for students and help monitor their progress
5. Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities
6. Assist class teachers with maintaining student records
7. Support individuals to keep attention on the lesson - monitoring behaviour to help keep them “on task”
8. Support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills, so that they may feel part of the class and school
9. Assume Supply Teacher role when required.
Administrative duties
1. Prepare and present displays of students' work
2. Support class teachers in photocopying and other tasks in order to support teaching
3. Support class teachers in Yearbook preparation
4. Undertake other duties from time to time as the Administrators require
Standards and quality assurance
1. Support the RBK Philosophy and Objectives
2. Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance
3. Be flexible, show initiative, have patience and understanding, and a team player
4. Have good ICT skills
5. Attend team and staff meetings
6. Attend staff training
7. Undertake professional duties that may be reasonably assigned by the principal
8. Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety
