Reporting to:
- Director of Design (Departmental Matters)
- Senior Architect/Interior Architect or Project Principal (Project Matters)
Job Purpose:
- The Architect / Interior Architect provides Design services in support of the Project Principal and/or Senior Architect/Interior Architect and to supplement the other disciplines involved in projects from time to time;
- May be tasked to take the leading role on special and several aspects of projects where the incumbent has recognised expertise;
- Depending on the incumbent’s competence/experience, some of the duties listed below shall be entrusted to the Architect/Interior Architect with supervision and guidance of Project Principal and/or Senior Architect/Interior Architect.
Responsibilities:
Concept Design and Design Development
- Understands and clarifies client's and Statutory Authority requirements;
- Determines, obtains, collates, and analyses all necessary design input data;
- Ability to interpret a design program and generates varied design concepts;
- Produces design presentations and documents;
- Knowledge of building codes;
- Develops exceptional concept designs which reflects innovative, creative thinking while at the same time, meeting the client's brief and agreed building budget, and are compliant with the relevant statutory regulations;
- Describes and defends conceptual thinking to peers and superiors;
- Develops concept(s) to integrate requirements of all disciplines to ensure delivery of a practical, working design(s), that are compliant with all relevant regulations and do not exceed the agreed building budget;
- Accommodates the functional aspects of other disciplines;
- Ensures a high standard of presentation drawings;
- Willingly works under pressure and meets agreed deadlines.
Construction Drawings
Effectively analyses the technical aspects of the design to ascertain the implications of design decisions relatives to the use of modern technologies;
- Develops detailed designs from agreed concepts, while applying practical design / engineering principles and the latest technological philosophies;
- Has a thorough knowledge of materials and installation techniques and can specify the use of appropriate materials to suit the design requirements and the building budget;
- Meets agreed deadlines and task benchmarks set by the Department;
- Coordinates the functional requirements of electrical, mechanical and structural disciplines to ensure solutions that support the architectural design concept.
Documentation and Filling
- Stores work-in progress and completed drawings in correct folders, as per Company policy;
- Files calculations and design notations in the correct folders for easy retrieval;
Files notes of all meetings (with clients, other design team members, Statutory Authorities, etc).
Teamwork, Cooperation and Communication:
- Understands given instructions and implement them. Clarifies instructions when not clear. Facilitates constructive discussion on contentious issues;
- Willingly works extra time to meet given deadlines;
- Advises Project Principal and/or Senior Architect/Interior Architect on availability for additional work;
- Willingly helps other project teams when own workload permits (under approval from HOD);
Guides new joiners on SSH standards, Department Manuals, filling, processes, etc
Experience:
- New graduates will be considered.
- Preferred 2 to 7 years post graduate experience in an Architectural / Interior Architecture practice with proven exposure to most facets of architecture including preparing working drawings, draft specifications and schedules.
- Must be fully Design software's & CAD literate (AutoCAD).
