Accounting Manager

A. Context and mandate

The organisation is a dynamic and fast growing educational company that is seeking to appoint an outstanding individual with a track record of overall control and responsibility for financial matters.

Working alongside the Managing Director (MD), you will:

1) manage company finances with your exceptional accounting expertise;
2) manage company policies regarding capital requirements, debt, taxation, equity and acquisitions as appropriate;
3) prepare analytical reports and figures; and
4) implement recommendations based on these findings, with the most profitable outcomes.

You will also manage and lead a team through difficult periods including month end, year end and annual budgeting, have excellent communication skills with all levels of staff, and work with various departments to help them plan and manage their own budgets.

B. Job Purpose

The Accounting Manager reports to the MD and assumes a strategic role in the overall management of the company.
Responsible for all aspects of financial control and reporting, the Accounting Manager is the link between the accounting department and upper management.

The Accounting Manager has primary responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial-related activities.

The Accounting Manager is accountable for financial administration and risk management; his role includes direct responsibility for accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning, supervising the activities of an accounting department, evaluating operating expenses, deal analysis and negotiations and banking and investor relations.

The Accounting Manager oversees financial reports in compliance with industry legislation and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Regulatory Guidelines.
Through analysis of accounting data, the Accounting Manager will find ways to improve underperforming areas within EPG, by creating efficiencies and reducing costs to maximise working capital for business growth.

C. Job Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to the Board's Finance and Accounting strategy, to optimise the company’s financial performance and strategic position.
• Form a close working relationship with the MD, other Senior Executives and Non Executives.
• Take overall control of the company’s accounting function.
• Lead and develop the finance team.
• Ensure that EPG financial systems are robust, compliant and support current activities and future growth.
• Ensure corporate budgeting processes are carried out and reviewed.
• Take ultimate responsibility for the company cash management policies.
• Present annual accounts to investors.
• Ensure that the regulatory requirements of all statutory bodies are met.
• Corporate finance: manage company policies regarding capital requirements, debt, taxation, equity, disposals and acquisitions, as appropriate.
• Oversee all transactions and processing systems.
• Implement operational best practices.
• Supervise acquisition due diligence and negotiate acquisitions.
• Ensure effective internal controls are in place and compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory legislation for financial and tax reporting.
• Prepare and interpret monthly management accounts and annual reports.
• Implement financial plans, assess and manage risks, reconcile balance sheets.
• Analyse margins, manage budgets, handle debtors.
• Monitor cash flows statements and predict future trends.
• Conduct reviews and evaluations for cost-reduction.
• Develop external relationships, for example; solicitors, bankers, investors.
• Liaise with auditors to ensure annual monitoring is carried out.
• Ensure that all transactional, payroll and taxation requirements are met.
• Keep on top of changes in regulation and legislation and new industry developments.
